The first couple of days of school

August 8th and 9th: We are getting to know each other and have had a great first couple of days. We've played the "Name Game" and have set goals for the school year, and shared what we did over the summer. We've discussed the change in procedures here at the high school, and  I've also assigned vocabulary words that will be quizzed over this Friday. Students were given a syllabus and the grading scale was reviewed. For regular students the grading scale is as follows:

40% Unit Tests, Major Projects, Major Essays
30% Unit Quizzes, Vocabulary Quizzes, Mini-Essays
20% Daily work, Homework
10% Benchmark

For the advanced students:

50% Unit Tests, Major Projects, and Major Essays
30% Vocabulary Quizzes, Unit Quizzes, Mini-Essays
10% Daily work, Homework
10% Benchmark

Students were reminded that late work will not be accepted unless it is a major project, test or essay. And that any late work accepted will be taken only one day late with a deduction of 10 points. No retests are given.
